The Story of the Dog
One Small Barking Dog began its life back in 1994 out of grass roots youth work. jon miles, a top young man doing a year out, got all empowered by his then youth worker, pip piper, and an adventure in creative media began.lego animations, funky interviews and clubby visuals, all done on begged and borrowed cheap gear, got some recognition and contacts with serious professionals.
Soon we were reeling under the potential of our new found path and late one night we were visited upon with the name that would launch all of our canines - one small barking dog.
Tangible existence came in the form of a synergy with CVG Television who gave us a start up grant. A team emerged of Tim Dendy and Andy Price, Heather Evans, Rob Purbrick and Pip Piper. (Jon Miles had moved onto a media degree!)
Things were now moving and some of our early resources emerged. tim and pip produced 6 short programmes for a regional television network.
Over time new contacts and relationships emerged and resources began to be used far and wide in both local, national and international situations.
We have established ourselves at the Custard Factory in Birmingham, an arts and media complex that keeps us very connected to emerging culture and although no longer in direct synergy with CVG, still have an excellent relationship.
The past few years have seen us operating under other charities but in October 2001 we became a charity and limited company in our own right.
Over the years we have engaged in community based media projects and also developed and created media for a number of national and local agencies.
The core team at present consists of 4 trustees - Rob Taylor (chair), Tim Evans, Chris Poole and Helen Farquharson - each bringing a diverse set of skills to the development of OSBD. David Cawley is full time as a filmmaker whilst Sarah Green and Sue Barker do the accounts and Wendy Poole acts as PA ,with Maggie Barr doing the admin. Pip Piper remains the director.
Tim Dendy is a freelance film maker and Rob Purbrick still runs London Bible College's media department and production company. Philosophy OSBD chooses to operate within an organic and relational framework. OSBD is innovative, seeking the edge, grass roots, choosing to facilitate and influence the emerging culture.
