You either love Bruce Willis or you don't. I do and because I do, I can sit through otherwise formulaic films and enjoy them.

16 Blocks, his latest release, is an improbable stroy made realy be a great performances from Willis and co-star Mos Def. Willis plays, Jack Mosley, a washed-up cop, drinking his way through an empty life who has to take a prosecution witness, Eddie Bunker (Def) to a Grand Jury hearing. It all goes horribly wrong and the sixteen blocks between the two men and justice being done gets longer and longer as the distance to the courthouse fills with corrupt cops out to kill them both.

Directed by action director, Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon etc.) this is a thrill-ride with depth, thanks to Willis, who lets himself look completely wasted on-screen. This is a man so confident in hislef that he is willing to look like crap to make a point - it works. Mos Def is fantastic as a criminal trying to make good on his life, a bit Rain-Man with Elmer Fudd thrown in for good measue he has a great rapport with Willis which makes for a fun ride. This time of year is a bit of a graveyard for movies - 16 Blocks shines like a diamond in the dust. Well, almost.
