Music for a lazy afternoon is a good way of characterizing Corinne Bailey Rae's debut release.
It opens with Like A Star, which could be a Zero 7 track which gives you a glimpse of the feel and focus of the album. That is not to take anything away from Bailey Rae who has one of those voices that can make you love music you might not usually listen to. There is a sweet, sultry feel to her vocal style it is a bit clinical at times and lacks the rough edge of a true soul singer, but there is nothing to complain about here, so I don't want to be churlish. Corinne Bailey Rae is a beautifully crafted, well-produced, well-written collection of songs that point to a promising future for Rae. This is someone we should expect to hear from for years to come.
