The Fix

Nino Moschella

Nino Moschella is a twenty-nine year-old Bay area resident who is making music some people say is the kind of stuff Stevie Wonder should be making in 2006.

Whether that is true or not, hints of Stevie permeate this debut full-length, along with Sly Stone, The Roots and a bit of Brazilian rhythm thrown in for good measure. Playing and singing virtually the entire album has not made this sound self-indulgent or lacking on any level.

It is a mature sounding slab of organic funk. The drums sound as though they were recorded in the bottom of a barrel; they thump and move the songs along with depth and groove. Moschella sounds quite feminine at times, in fact, I had to check the liner notes to make sure it was him?it is, with a couple of backing vox here and there.

60s funk and soul with a bit of indie pop and folk thrown over the top?perfect grooves for hot summer afternoons.
